Keystone Ranch
Beautiful views from the Keystone golf course. A fancy place with wild game.
Ski Tip Lodge
Fine dining in one of the oldest ski lodges in North America. It's pricey, but the food and atmosphere is amazing! One of my favorite restaurants.
Mint Steakhouse
Grill your own steak house in a historic building. One of my favorites!
Alpenglow Stube
On top of the North Peak at Keystone, you'll need to take 2 gondolas to arrive. It's beautiful. You can also ski to it in the Winter and get an awesome lunch.
Goat Soup & Whiskey Tavern
Great venue that is the closest to our house. Live music, cheap drinks, awesome energy! My favorite Keystone bar that is not part of the resort. The food is so-so/not-good, but they usually have an uncommon soup that satisfies. I recommend not going out to highway 6 but parking at the Mountain House and walking across the bridge.
Kickapoo Tavern
One of Howie's favorite spots after skiing a day of skiing.
Arapahoe Basin Ski Area
One of my favorite ski mountains in Colorado. Best price / value on lift tickets too. *Also has some of the hardest terrain I have ever skied. Steep Gullies, YIKES! Awesome parties on the beach and Spring skiing into June too.
Keystone Resort
Just a mile or so down the road. Only ski resort with night skiing too.
Breckenridge Ski Resort
Take Swan Mountain road to Breckenridge. Fun town and lots to do. Breck has some awesome skiing above the tree line and good night life too.
Loveland Ski Area
You can always get discount tickets to Loveland on Liftopia. I don't ski here often but has impressive views above tree line.
Whole Foods Market
Just on the other side of the lake. About 20 min away.
City Market
Closest reasonably priced grocery store to Keystone. Any closer ones are extremely expensive.
Target
There is a Walmart in Frisco, but this Target is closer.
Locals Liquors
Best deals and selection on local brew and liquor.
Walgreens
Nearest drugstore.
Frisco
One of my favorite mountain towns. A great Main Street with lots of local shops and restaurants that has not been taken over by the conglomerates.
Keystone Resort
Right down the road and perfect for families. Skiing and boarding in the Winter. Biking and hiking in the Summer. Keystone has some of the best downhill mountain biking around.
Montezuma
A beautiful drive to a really cool old west town. No stores or gas station, but an awesome place to start a hike or check out changing leaves. If you have a 4-wheeler, you can off-road all the way to Breckenridge.
Pizza 101
Pizza for pick up or delivery. Usually the last food place open. Phone: (970) 262-0200
Pizza On the Run
Another pizza option in River Run.
Red Buffalo Coffee
Our favorite coffee spot in Summit County. We often leave their "Jazzy Java" in the room for our guests.
Haywood Cafe
Best spot for breakfast nearby. We're big fans of their eggs benedict.
The River Course at Keystone
The newest of the two golf courses in Keystone. For big hitters, the air is thin so try to hit your longest drive EVER on hole number 16... it's ALL downhill.
Keystone Ranch Golf Course
This is one of two golf courses in Keystone. I'm not much of a golfer but have walked the course many times. Great place for dinner too. Very, very cool!
Mountain View Sports Rentals
Where I tell most people to rent from. Way better than the resorts with good gear at a good price. Skis, boards, bikes, and other related gear. Way better option than renting from the resort.
Wilderness Sports
Where you can rent the best gear. From touring skis, split boards, downhill bikes, climbing gear, they pretty much got it all. Awesome second-hand selection too.
Sapphire Point Overlook
Real easy hike. About a mile and not a lot of elevation.
Rainbow Lake
This is a real challenging hike that's not too far out. It's about 3.5 miles to Peak 1. You can cut it short and hike to Mt Royal or go longer to Peak 2. It's a lot of elevation, so bring water.
Resort Bus - Yellow
There is a resort bus system that will take you to the different parts of the resort.
Summit Stage Bus
Free bus that will take you around Summit County including Keystone, Abasin, Breckenridge, Dillon, Silverthorne, Frisco, and Copper. It's really nice to ride but does take a while with all the other stops.
Uber & Lyft not so good...
Every year it seems like we get a few more Lyft and Uber drivers, but there are just not that many.
Lots of Layers ~ Hot in the day, Cold at night.
No place is this more true than here. It might hit 80 degrees on a September day, then snow after the sun goes down. It's crazy. Make sure you don't get caught without a jacket.
Frisco BBQ Challenge
I went to this for the first time last summer, and it was awesome!
Keller Williams @Keystone - Early December
Keller comes to Keystone once a year to kick off the ski season. If you're a fan, it's always an unforgettable show!
Ice Castle in Dillon
This is a new thing, and everyone says it's really cool. But you need to book a few weeks in advance.
Get a Ski Pass! Epic, Ikon, whatever...
Everyone gets ski passes these days. They're between $500 - $1000 but offer unlimited skiing all year. Otherwise, you'll be paying over $100 each day.
Don't rent gear at the resort!
I can't believe how much they mark it up. You'll easily save 50% by renting your gear in-town, and the equipment is often many generations better.
DRINK MORE H2O!
You need to drink way more water at this elevation than you're used to.
Leave No Trace!
Pack it in, pack it out.
You're in Bear Country
Never leave out food, trash, or anything that smells. Respect all wildlife. 30 meters from small animals, 100 meters from large animals.
Snake River Saloon
Go here for the music, not the steak. Rustic and authentic mountain bar.
Last Lift Bar
Actually, this is the closest bar. Only open during ski season though. Downstairs and across the street. Top floor of the ski lodge.
Dos Locos Mexican Restaurant & Cantina
Ask DJ about the happy hour menu and leave him a big tip! Great "mountain-Mexican" food to replenish lost calories.
Montezuma Roadhouse
Probably my favorite spot in River Run. Good food.
Inxpot
Great for coffee, relax, chill out, warm up or catch your breath. They serve various specialty drinks as well as small bites to eat. More for breakfast but also lunch.
Loveland Pass
Just down the road. It's about the same as taking I-70.
Independence Pass
This place is awesome! A great day trip to Aspen.
Vail
Vail's Vail. And it's pretty big. Lots and lots to check out.
Breckenridge
Take Swan Mountain road to Breckenridge. Fun town and lots to do. Breck has some awesome skiing above the tree line and good nightlife too.
Steep Brewery
This is probably my most visited restaurant in Keystone. I really like the staff and the food is the best value in River Run.
Pizza 101
Pizza for pick up or delivery. Usually the last food place open. Phone: (970) 262-0200
Keystone Grocery & Gas
The closest place to get food from the house. It's got pretty good food for a gas station, but everything is overpriced. Prices are much better at City Market in Dillon. Also has a liquor store on the other side.
St. Anthony Summit Medical Center
Nearest hospital.
Frisco Main Street
One of my favorite mountain towns. A great Main Street with lots of local shops and restaurants that has not been taken over by the conglomerates.
Columbine Ski & Sport
I think this is the best place to rent skis. They are reasonably priced, and their standard rental is better than most.
Keystone Stables
The stables are just a few blocks away. They offer trail rides and wagon dinners. Some of the funniest memories of my childhood happened here. :)
Keystone Lake Ice Rink
The lake is super close to the house and has an activity center where you can rent boats and canoes. It's also the meeting place for many horse-drawn sleigh rides, fly fishing, and rafting trips. In the winter, they take a Zamboni out on the lake and turn it into a huge ice skating rink.
